Happy Hour in Winston-Salem - 

Where: Home 'pub' of Clark & Pat Craig, 1325 Watson Ave. W-S, 27103-5011

When: March 5, 12, 19, 26, 5-7pm

Admission Charge: one joke ( gotta be a clean one!); or your opinion concerning current events. 

FREE refreshments: wine or cold beer, with a two drink limit. Plus chips. Coffee available upon request.

Note: What a great way to start the week end! Stay for 15 minutes or for 2 hours. Bring a friend, a smile and pull up a chair, enjoy a glass of wine, beer and chips. The Jay Leno-type jokes should be good, and it will be interesting to hangout with the 'friends' we can talk into joining us. See you every Friday for two months during the months of March and April. Whether Happy Hour continues depends on whether YOU show up. And whether YOU encourage the event. P.S. No reservations needed. 

 
Mocksville Tuesday Lunch - 

Where: Shiki Japanese restaurant, 1421 Yadkinville Rd. (Hwy 601) Mocksville 27028. 336-936-0011. Great food, good prices, excellent service!

When: March 16th 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Directions: From I-40, take exit 170 towards Mocksville (South), travel 0.5 miles. Shiki is located directly in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Enter at Loews entrance and turn left at the first drive before Lowe’s parking lot. Shiki is on the left.

High Point Wednesday Lunch - 1st Wednesday 11:45 a.m.

Where: J&S Cafeteria, 5835 Samet Dr., High Point, NC, 27265, across from the Palladium Theater. map

When: March 3rd 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Directions: In High Point, take Eastchester to Samet Dr. Turn right. Then right again into J&S parking lot. From Greensboro, take Wendover towards High Point. Turn right at Samet, then left at J&S. Samet Dr. is the street which takes you to the Palladium theater. J&S is across Samet Dr. from the theater.

Note: In cafeteria, after leaving serving line, turn right and go to farthest seating area. Non-smoking. Look for Mensa table identifier and a group of friendly folks. Bring spouse, friend, companion. All are welcome.

TRI***STAR EVENT IN JAMESTOWN

For those astronomers in our group, novice to professional, the event to attend is The Triad Starfest ("Tri-Star"), taking place on Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Sears Applied Technologies Center on the campus of Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown. Doors open 8-9am, and the first talk is at 9:30am. There will be two morning, and two afternoon talks, with a lunch break.

There is also a Friday evening, March 5, presentation, at 7pm, held in the auditorium of the same Sears Building, by Neil Comins, Univ of Maine astronomer, "Science Errors on TV-A Personal Story" After Dr. Comins' talk, the Cline Observatory will be open for observing. Salem Lake Saunter In Winston-Salem 2:00 pm

Where: Salem Lake

When: March 14th, 2:00 p.m.

Directions: Take Business 40 to exit 10, Linville Road. (From Winston go straight; from Greensboro turn right on Linville and drive 0.2 miles and turn right) at the light on New Greensboro Road for 1.3 miles. Park and walk down the road to the lake. We’ll meet by the lake at 2 pm. Mapquest zip 27101-6253.

Burlington Wednesday Lunch - 2nd Wednesday 12:15 p.m.

Where: HoneyBaked Ham Cafe, 544 Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, NC, 27215, 336-722-0900.
Offers salads, soups, famous ham, plus turkey, chicken and tuna sandwiches.

When: March 10th 12:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Directions: Take I-40 to Huffman Mill Rd. exit 141. Go north, towards Burlington, about 1/2 mile. Cafe is on the right at the far end of a shopping strip, across the road from Ruby Tuesdays sign.

Note: Order at the counter. Look for us in the balcony with the Mensa sign.

Global Gourmets...on...the...go!

When: Monday, March 15th, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Where: Rearn Thai, 5120 West Market Street, Greensboro, 27409. 336-292-5901.

Directions: From Bus 40, take Wendover East. Exit Spring Garden St. Go north (or west) about six blocks to Market St. Turn left. Go to 5120 W. Market St. Restaurant is on the right.

Notes: I've thought of checking out the various Thai restaurants in the Triad; so, we'll head for one in Greensboro this month. Here are some tidbits concerning Rearn Thai from InsiderPages.com: "Economical Thai food" / "Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food" / "The staff is really nice and treat you like family" / "The food is delectable" and one from TripAdvisor.com: "The atmosphere is also nice".

When: March 17th 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Directions: From Wendover, take Friendly Shopping Center Exit. From Green Valley Rd., turn into Northline Ave. Proceed west to the other end of the shopping center.

Note: Turn left from the serving line, to the farthest seating area.

Directions: Business I-40 from the east: take Cloverdale Ave. exit 4a. Keep right at fork onto Cloverdale Ave SW. Continue one block to Miller St and go straight through the light, turn right into Cloverdale Plaza. Panera is at the far right side. From the west: take Cloverdale Ave.exit 4. Turn right on Cloverdale and go to Miller St and go straight through the light, turn right into Cloverdale Plaza. Panera is at the far right side. Harris Teeter, Dollar Store and CVS are in this shopping center.

Note: In Panera, order at counter, Then go to separate dining room through the door and look for Mensa Logo sign.

Directions: I-40 Exit 210 (for NC Hwy 68). Follow signs for Regional Rd. Turn right at McDonald's. Fatz will be on your left.

Games Night, 4th Saturday, 7:00 p.m. to ?

We usually play group games which make for a lot of laughing; but for serious thinkers a separate table is set aside in a quiet room. Photos from Games Night!

Where: Barb Ford's house, 3189 Hwy 158, Mocksville, 27028-7638. Balloons on the mailbox will mark our location!
Indoor cats and a dog. Smoking allowed outside on the patio. (If you have egg cartons, we can use them!! If you like eggs, we have them!! Cute chickens, too!)

When: Saturday, March 27th, Potluck 4:00 PM, Games 7:00 PM to ?

Bring: A dish to pass, some munchies, or just yourself. BYOB! Barb & Gary will provide coffee, tea, glasses, plates, napkins.

Directions: From points East, I-40W to exit 180-A (go under the bridge), right at the top of the ramp, right onto US Hwy 158, travel 4 mi, house just past Dulin Road on your right. From points West/South, take I-40E to exit 174, right at the top of the ramp, left onto US Hwy 158, travel 1 mi, driveway first on left after Ward Road.
